"Far more than just winter sports"
Winterberg is best known for winter sports. Throughout the year—including in the summer— national and international competitions in a wide variety of disciplines are held here. Recreational athletes will also find plenty to enjoy. But there’s much more to discover beyond that as well.
The St. Georg Ski Jump and the practice jumps located right next to it are not only a training ground for many of the region’s up-and-coming talents, but the main jump also serves as a lookout point and landmark for the “ Winterberg ” vacation destination. Located about 750 meters from the “ Hostel ”Erlebnisberg Kappe , it towers 43 meters above the landscape.

The Veltins EisArena regularly hosts bobsled, luge, and skeleton competitions. Racers thunder down the more than 1,600-meter-long ice track at top speeds of up to 150 km/h. From the Panorama Erlebnis Bridge, you’ll have a wonderful view of the entire facility. Exciting guided tours of the bobsled track give you an even deeper insight into the sport. If you’re brave enough, you can even take a ride in the taxi bobsled yourself.
Another viewpoint offering a spectacular view can be found at the Kahler Asten. At over 841 meters, it is the second-highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia. At the summit stands an observation tower that, on a clear day, offers a breathtaking view extending up to 100 kilometers. A variety of hiking trails can be found around the Kahler Asten year-round.
You can also spend a relaxing day in downtown Winterberg. The mix of the historic old town and modern buildings has a very special charm that will make you lose track of time. You’ll be well taken care of at the many restaurants and cafes, and there are plenty of shopping options as well.
In the neighboring town of Hallenberg, you'll also find the Heidekopfturm, a lookout point that offers a closer look at the nature and scenery of the Sauerland.
